Tapin Trade and Industry Office (Disperindag) distributed as many as 6,720 canisters of 3 kg Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) to 12 sub-districts to anticipate the scarcity of the subsidized cooking gas for the community.

"The first phase supply of subsidized gas has been completed, now is the process of second phase supply," said the head of the office Harliansyah here on Wednesday.

The first phase started in early February. Each sub-district received 280 canisters of 3 kg LPG  with a standard price of IDR17,500 per canister.

He said one of the factors that caused the gas difficult to obtain and the price surge to the range of IDR30 thousand-IDR40 thousand per canister was due to the damage to the trans-Kalimantan road after the major flash flood.

"While the access road was still difficult, we together with the South Kalimantan Trade and Industry Office and Pertamina kept our effort to anticipate these problems," he said.

An owner of gas retail in North Tapin, Ridha, said that the price of 3 kg LPG is still relatively normal as it was before the flood.

"It was true there was a scarcity, because of the slow supply from the base. Several times the supply came but only for a day or two immediately ran out, because many residents have ordered in advance," he said.
