Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Palm oil is a major contribution to South Kalimantan in improving the economy and encourages regional competitiveness through the plantation sector.


"The contribution of oil palm is great for South Kalimantan and ranks second after the mining sector," said Assistant I the Province's Secretariat (Setdaprov) Suharjo in Banjarbaru on Monday.

He said it when representing Governor Rudy Ariffin in the seminar with the theme of palm plantation business competitiveness boost regional progress.

According to him, the position of oil palm as a plantations commodity is under the rubber which is ranked first and has big contribution to the area.

Forms of provincial government support for palm oil plantations through approval Rights (HGU) on land that used for plantation.

"Quite a lot of oil palm plantation concession approved by governors and employers should pay attention to the status of the land so as not to meet problems in the future," he said.

He stressed, in addition to the problem of land status, employers must also consider the palm plantations surrounding communities through empowerment as labor in plantations.

"Employers should not ignore the people around the plantation to avoid conflict in addition to care either through CSR programs and other forms of attention," he said.

Executive Director of JPIP South Kalimantan Area Masykur Sofyan said, employers should also be able to explore the potential and competence of society. "People are not only used as labor but enhanced potency and competence so as to become entrepreneurs in the future," he said.
