A number of foodstuff prices have soared in North Hulu Sungai (HSU) due to floods that hit districts and cities in South Kalimantan.
"In overall, the availability of foodstuff is sufficient, only prices of several commodities, such as chili and chicken, have increased," said Acting Head of the HSU Industry, Trade, Cooperative, Small and Medium Enterprise Agency Muhammad Rafiq inAmuntai, Monday.
Local chili peppers, which in the previous week was Rp110.000 per kg jumped to Rp160.000, while spurs (taji) hot chili increased by Rp10.000 from previously Rp70.000 per kg.
Meanwhile, broiler chicken meat increased by Rp10.000 from Rp30.000 to Rp40.000 per head, while village chicken increased from Rp65.000 to Rp70.000 per head.
Rafiq said the increase in local chili price likely due to drastically reduced supply due to flash floods in Central Hulu Sungai (HST).
"Many local chili commodities are brought from HST where most parts of the area are hit by flash floods," he said.
Likewise, some chicken meat is still brought from outside HSU, thus the supply was constrained by floodings and the cut-off of national road in South Kalimantan.
