Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Kotabaru Administration plans to extend the Gusti Syamsir Alam airport at Stagen from 1,650 meters to 2,200 meters in order to serve large airplanes.
Regent Kotabaru H Irhami Ridjani said it on a national seminar with the theme "uphold the sovereignty of the nation by development of maritime technology support and build Kotabaru as a center of maritime development", in Kotabaru, Wednesday.
Regent said the Stagen airport now serving commercial flight of Wings Air, Kalstar, and Jhonlin for Kotabaru-Banjarmasin, Kotabaru-Balikpapan, Kotabaru-Makassar and Kotabaru-Surabaya routes.
If the runway has been developed as expected, local government will ask the existing airline and other airlines to open a new route, namely Kotabaru-Yogyakarta and Kotabaru-Jakarta.
Meanwhile, to support the desire of Kotabaru set to be the center of maritime development it is also supported by the full existing infrastructure, such as international seaports.
Arutmin Indonesia Port (North Pulau Laut Coal Terminal/NPLCT) and Mekar Putih port owned by PT IBT, in the MoT masterplant are planned as major ports. Currently, the port used by PT IBT for unloading coal. The port is able to serve boat weighing up to 200,000 DWT.
