Indonesia on Friday reported 6,689 fresh COVID-19 cases over a 24-hour period, which brought the total case tally to 650,197 since the country announced its first infections on March 2, 2020.
As per data from the National Task Force for COVID-19 Handling, the number of recoveries increased by 5,016 in the 24-hour period, taking the total number of patients recovering from the virus to 531,995.
The country also reported 124 fatalities across the nation, which brought the death toll to 19,514.
Meanwhile, the health authorities examined specimens of 67,678 people, bringing the cumulative number of specimens examined so far to 6,674,683.
In general, the total number of suspected cases recorded per day stood at 62,717.
The task force said COVID-19 transmission has been reported in 34 provinces comprising 510 districts and cities in the country.
Jakarta contributed the highest number of cases at 1,587, followed by West Java (987), East Java (819), South Sulawesi (531), Central Java (354), East Kalimantan (280), Yogyakarta (211), North Sulawesi (206), Riau (184), and Bengkulu (171).
Maluku was the only province to report less than 10 fresh cases.
East Java reported the most deaths per day at 47, followed by Jakarta with 19 deaths and Central Java with 18 deaths.
Jakarta also contributed the highest number of recoveries at 1,238, followed by West Java (931), East Java (599), Central Java (379), and Yogyakarta (199).
The capital city's cumulative case count stood at (159,620), followed by East Java (73,798), West Java (71,764), Central Java (69,655), and South Sulawesi (24,883).
Jakarta's total recoveries reached 143,885, East Java 63,458, West Java 59,118, Central Java 47,575, and Riau 20,876.
Meanwhile, the highest number of deaths occurred in East Java (5,102), followed by Jakarta (3,033), Central Java (2,746), West Java (1,093), and East Kalimantan (661). (INE)
