The Tanah Laut chapter of the Indonesian Orchid Association (PAI) held the yearly 12th Borneo Orchid Show to enliven the 55th anniversary of the district, Saturday.

Regent HM Sukamta hoped the activity to become one of the media to preserve the specific Moon Orchid of Tanah Laut and to encourage orchid lovers to be creative to develop a new variant.

Moon Orchid (Phalaenopsis Amabilis) is a native Indonesian orchid that is called the flower of charm. It also found in other parts of Indonesia, such as Java and Bali (with the name Wulan Anggrek) and Maluku (Flying Anggrek). 

Sukamta acknowledged that the contest this time was not as lively as last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but was still held by applying health protocol, and orchid lovers could gather to create new things, especially for orchid plants in Tanah Laut. 

Chairwoman of PAI Tanah Laut Hj Nurul Hikmah Sukamta said the orchid contest was participated by representatives from all sub-districts in Tanah Laut. 

She hopes the orchid lovers are growing day by day and the orchid is increasingly popular among all people, especially the Moon Orchid typical of Tanah Laut.

Several categories were contested, including the orchid without flowers won by Suliyo, Vanda Orchid won by Imama, open class won by Risma, Dendrobium won by Suliyo, Phalaenopsis won by Uni, and best of orchid was Suliyo.

Also attending Chairwoman of Tanah Laut Women's Organization Yati Oktoviana Abdi Rahman, Chairwoman of Anggrek Meratus Indonesia Foundation Hj Noorhasanah, representative of South Kalimantan Center of Seed Hj Nana Hardiyanti, Chairwoman of Persit Kartika Chandra Kirana 1009/Plh and other invited guests.
