The Banjarmasin Office of Custom and Excise destroyed 5,495,232 illegal cigarettes, alcohol drinks, sliced tobacco, HPTL or liquid vape and 303 packages of ex-illegal foreign postal goods worth IDR5.2 billion.

Head of the office Kurnia Saktiyono here on Wednesday said the destroyed items were the result of prevention and enforcement during 2019-2020.

"These goods are illegally excisable and ex-foreign postal shipment do not comply with prohibition and or restriction imposed by relevant agencies," he said.

The circulation of these goods violates Article 29 paragraph (1) of Law No.11 of 1995 jo. Law No.39 of 2007 on excise that excisable goods may only be offered, delivered, sold, or made available for sale, after being packaged and attached the required excise stamps.

Kurnia explained that the perpetrator could be subjected to criminal sanction in accordance with Article 54 Law No 11/1995 Jo. Law 39/2007 concerning excise, namely imprisonment for at least 1 year and a maximum of 5 years and or fine at least twice and a maximum of 10 times value of the excise should be paid.

He said that the illegal excise goods were distributed by the owner through sea shipment by disguising the name and address of the consignee, as well as the type of goods. Thus it was difficult to trace the real recipient when the action was carried out.

"But there also illegal business actors who try to smuggle the goods through air parcel," he said.

He added that Custom at the Post Office and the South Kalimantan Office of Custom and Excise in Banjarbaru also took action against some foreign postal packages that were not equipped with the recommendation and import approval letters from related agencies.

Meanwhile, the goods destroyed included cigarettes (Banjarmasin Office) as many as 4,475,072 stick worth IDR3.98 billion, cigarettes (South Kalimantan Office) 1,020,160 sticks worth IDR1 billion.

Sliced tobacco and HPTL (liquid vape) 154.5 kg and 33 bottles worthIDR28.5 million, drinks containing ethyl alcohol (MMEA) 54 bottles worth IDR44,6 million, and postal packages (in the form of cosmetics, supplement, food, plant seeds, fire-weapon, and sex toys) totaling 303 packages worth IDR117,97 million.
