Entering rainy season, farmers in Central Hulu Sungai (HST), especialy those in the lowlands and rely on rainfed, begin to sow rice or doing cultivation.
As seen in Kadundung Village, Labuan Amas Utara Sub-district, people cultivated the Mikongga type of rice.
While Babinsa (a village supervisory non-commissioned officer) from the Sub-district Military Command (Koramil) 1002-08/Kasarangan Sergeant (Serda) Alfiannoor carried out assistance in planting Mikongga rice on 1.5 hectares rice field owned by farmer Mukti Ali from Jujur Membangun Farmers Group.
According to Serda Alfiannoor, assistance to farmers was an effort to motivate farmers to be more enthusiastic about farming during the pandemic.
It was done to support food security under his foster area to realize food sufficiency.
He also promoted health protocol by implementing new habits regulated by the local government to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Mukti Ali thanked the Babinsa for always motivating farmers to cultivate their crops while facing the impact of COVID-19.
"We farmers always coordinate with PPL (agriculture counseling officers) and Babinsa in farming and maintaining our rice plants to grow fertile and healthy, so the crop yieds increase and will automatically increase the economic condition of farmers," he said.
The Commander (Danramil) of 1002-08/Kasarangan Military Command Capt.Inf. Lilis Susanto emphasized that the Babinsa duty in the foster village is not only monitoring the area.
"A Babinsa also carries out food security assistance, which includes rice, corn, and soybeans (pajale)," he explained.
