Water filling of Tapin Dam, located in Pipitak Jaya Village, Piani Sub-district, in Tapin Regency, officially started on Friday (Oct 9, 2020).

The filling of the dam, which is in the National Strategic Project (PSN), was marked by the closing of the diversion tunnel by the Regent of Tapin HM Arifin Arpan.

In the interview, the Regent hoped that the community, especially in the surrounding area, would together maintain the dam.

"Hopefully this dam is really beneficial for all of us, so let us care for and maintain it together," he said.

Head of the Kalimantan River Hall II Fikry Abdurahman said that the dam construction which began in 2015 has entered the final stage.

"The filling or the immersion is the final stage of the Tapin Dam construction," he said.

Fikry explained, filling the dam with a total inundation area of 145.5 hectares, and a total filling of 56.6 million cubic of water takes about  4 to 5 months.

"Fast and slow of filling depends on rainfall. The development team has conducted studies and calculations (and estimated) it will be no longer than 5 months," he said.

In the future, Tapin Dam, which is the area of Meratus Mountains, will supply water for 5,472 hectares of irrigation, a potential of 500 liters/second raw water, and 3.3 megawatts of electrical energy potential.
