Head of the Tanah Laut Village Community Empowerment Office (PMD) Gatot Subagiyo said that the district's Developing Village Index (IDM) has ranked second in the last two years in South Kalimantan. 

"Tanah Laut District is currently in the 156th position out of 434 total districts throughout Indonesia as a district with the highest IDM," he said at the Special Characterized Village Coordination Meeting in Tajau Pecah Village, Batu Ampar Sub-district, Tuesday.

Concerning the special characterized village, he mentioned, they are Bukit Mulya Village in Kintap Sub-district, has known with a characteristic of diversity and mutual cooperation, then Asam-Asam Village, Jorong Sub-district, is a village of nipah leaf roof craftsmen.

Telaga Langsat Village, Takisung Sub-district, is a center of kalulut honey, while Tajau Pecah Village in Batu Ampar is a village with the atmosphere of Balinese custom, then Handil Birayang Bawah Village, Bumi Makmur Sub-district, has superior rice of Mayang Zambon.

Representing the regent, Expert Staff for Development, Economy and Finance H Zainal Abidin said, the working meeting should be a motivation to develop typical characterized villages and to preserve the distinctive features of each village. 

It would be much better all villages in Tanah Laut have their respective advantages in various fields.

"The advantages that exist in the villages make our villages able to compete and become superior, this is what I really hope," he said.

The coordination meeting was also attended by a representative of the South Kalimantan Community and Village Empowerment Agency, head of the Tanah Laut government working units, the leaders' coordination forum of Batu Ampar Sub-district, villages heads, religious and community figures.
