Banjarmasin Mayor H Ibnu Sina announced the revocation of PDAM Bandarmasih's water basic tariff of 10 cubic meters.

Immediately, after a meeting with the rank of directors and board of supervisory of the city government-owned company on Wednesday, he published the decision.

"This policy applies to all categories starting October 2020," he said.

He reasoned the removal was a response to public complaints, both directly to the city government or those submitted through the legislature.

"We hope this can ease the burden on residents, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.

Ibnu Sina emphasized that the withdrawal of the 10 cubic basic tariffs would not interfere with PDAM's performance.

President Director of PDAM Bandarmasih Ir H Yudha Achmadi also emphasized that this policy would not reduce the performance of water distribution.

PDAM Bandarmasih in 2017 made a policy approved by the city government that the basic tariff for clean water was 10 cubic, even though people only use one or two cubics.

Although questioned and protested, PDAM argued that the policy referred to the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation No. 71 of 2016 concerning drinking water tariffs.

PDAM Bandarmasih also referred to Government Regulation No. 122 of 2015 concerning drinking water service standards.
