Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - All 1.668 villages spread over 13 districts and munacipalities in South Kalimantan will be connected to internet through informatic empowerment program (Destika)starting from 2014. 

Head of South Kalimantan Communications and Informatics Agency Haris Karno here on Sunday said this year program is targeted to accomplish 20 percent of the total villages.

"By 2019 we are targeting whole villages in South Kalimantan to be online and each has integrated website to facilitate the information," he said.

To implement the program, on 27 March 2014 the agency held technical guidance how to create website. And as many as 110 villages are in the process of domain registration to Indonesia domain manager or PANDI.

While access to internet network, he added, will be utilizing ICT infrastructure constructed by Ministry of Communications in the form of subdistrict Internet service centers PLIK) which is now connected to 160 internet locations and 156 sub-districts.

Beside, it optimizes utilization of MPLIK (mobile-subdistrict Internet service centers) in South Kalimantan to provide network access to the internet when 84 units of MPLIK available. It also utilizing local WIFI network built in 26 locations in 13 districts and munacipalities.

The program also utilizes PLIK in productive centers, facilities that have been built in 33 locations distributed in 13 districts and cities in South Kalimantan.

Movement to disseminate information to build villages through village website is expected to increase access to information on the progress of the village, and can be quickly accessed by the public.

By the availability of village website, rural communities are expected to promote tourism, the potential of village both natural resources, industry and handicraft to be quickly known to the outside world.

Menwhile, all of which exist in the village and village activities can be directly monitored by national and local governments.
