A probosci's monkey (locally popular as bekantan) entangled in an electric cable has been saved by PT PLN disruption service personnel and a policeman in Balangan.
Previously there was a report of an electric short circuit in Matang Lurus Village, Lampihong Sub-district. PLN immediately responded by sending two disruption service personnel.
In the village, the two PLN officers found a proboscis monkey wrapped around the electric cable at the edge of the district road.
With caution, for the sake of the safety of the native Kalimantan primate, officers disentangled the power cable which wrapped around the bekantan.
After rescuing the bekantan and repairing the electricity, the officers brought the primate to Paringin PLN Office, then reported it to the Balangan District Police.
Sec.Insp. Yudi, chief of special crime detection (Tipiter) hurried to the PLN. he also rushed to contact the veterinarians from the Animal Husbandry Office and Forestry Office to find out the health condition of the animal, considering bekantans are protected animals.
Based on the examination, the bekantan was declared healthy. Then it was reported to the South Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA).

The bekantan was placed temporarily at the Conservation Dept of the Forestry Office to reduce it stress level while waiting for the BKSDA officer.
"To pick up the animal. It must be followed up and observed by the BKSDA," said Sec.Insp. Yudi when confirmed.
He added, there were wounds on several parts of the proboscis monkey's body, such as burn on the back and scratches on the right foot, but were not severe.
According to him, an investigation will be carried out to find out how this endangered species could arrive at the location on the first discovery.
"Ia also asked the public not to keep or trade protected animals," said Sec.Insp. Yudi.
