The Provincial Government of South Kalimantan has determined to change the regional economic structure from 70 percent more dependent on mining to agriculture, industry, and tourism.
South Kalimantan Regional Secretary Abdul Haris in Banjarmasin on Sunday (May 3, 2020) said, in its 2021 Working Plan the province has determined to carry out the transformation of economic structure to industry, agriculture, and tourism sectors by pursuing the development targets had been set.
Specifically in agriculture, food crops, and fisheries, South Kalimantan has set a priority target, namely 2,5 million tons of rice production.
Currently, South Kalimantan, with the support of the central government, is actively developing the agriculture sector in swamps to increase production target through clearing new land and planting targets from one to twice or even three times a year.
The efforts include the construction of dams in several districts and implementing the Serasi Program, namely optimization of land that is integrated with the effort to improve the standard living of farmers.
The secretary said the government is also targeting to build irrigation with a minimum of 40,50 percent in good condition.

In fisheries, the province is targeting a production of 260 thousand tons of captured fish and 164 thousand tons of aquaculture. The program will be achieved, among others, by managing water resources, developing agriculture facilities and infrastructure as well as fisheries business.
while in livestock, South Kalimantan is targeting 82.829 tons of meat production and at the same time, it targets to developing ready to prepare fresh meat and fish at 10... a year.
Previously, Head of Food Crops and Horticulture Syamsir Rahman said, the Save Swamp To Prosper Farmers (Serasi) program in South Kalimantan was considered quite successful and could significantly increase rice crop productivity.
