The Kotabaru Legislative Council (DPRD) made a sudden inspection to the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) warehouse to ensure the available supply of food, especially rice, following the policy of restricting people's entry to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) from outside South Kalimantan.

The DPRD Speaker Syairi Mukhlis was accompanied by the ranks of the Kotabaru Food Security Agency and representatives of the Cooperative, Trade, and Industry Agency. They were welcomed by the Head of Kotabaru chapter of Bulog Abdul Mukti.

"In his explanation Bulog Kotabaru says, there are 877 tons of rice stock, the amount is estimated to be enough for the next six months," Syairi said.

Not only rice, he continued, at present, the supply of other staples, such as cooking oil and frozen meet are ready in Bulog to meet the need of people.

The PDIP politician revealed, in general, the supply of main foodstuffs is relatively sufficient, but one commodity experiences scarcity, namely sugar.

"The scarcity is not only in Kotabaru, but is evenly in South Kalimantan, even in Indonesia, as a result of the price jumps at the market which is now Rp21,000 per kg," he said.

However, the Bulog explained that Kotabaru will receive a quota of about 20 tons of sugar which is still in the process of order from the province.
