The Community Empowerment Council (MPM) of Muslim organization Muhammadiyah in South Kalimantan provided reflexology skill training for blind people to enrich their knwledge as most of them work in massage service.

The training held at the Al-Furqon Mosque in Banjarmasin as the mosque inaugurated it service of Lazismu, the board of zakat, infaq and shadaqah, Saturday (Dec 7, 2019).

Chairman of South Kalimantan Muhammadiyah's MPM H Hesly Junianto SH, MH, remarked, the visually impaired people who participated in the training were from  the Indonesian Association of Visually Impaired People (Pertuni) Banjarmasin.

"Their number is about 30. Their were trained by reflexology experts," he said.

It is expected, he pointed out, after being trained they will be able to expand their service to reflexology therapy that is now beginning to be favored by the community.

"At least there is a development in their talents, whereas they already have the basis of massage skill," he said.

Members of Pertuni, Hesly admitted, have long been fostered, including in religious field, namely learning to read Al-Quran,  fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence).

"We are trying to make them independent by having expertise," he said.

Deputy Chariman of the South Kalimantan PWM Prof Ridhani Fizi expressed his appreciation for the reflexology training for the visually impaired people in collaborating with Lazismu, because this was a good deed.

The Antasari state Islamic University (UIN) professor remarked, in accordance to its muktamar (congress) in Makassar, Muhammadiyah now should help to empower people with disabilities or those who have physical or mental limitations. The training activities for the blind is one of its applications.

"Not only the blind, other people with disabilities are also given attention, with a variety of coaching," he pointed out.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Banjarmasin Chapter of Muhammadiyah M Natsir Bardjat said, ther will be a follow-up to the reflexology training for the blind.

"We plan to open reflexology center for them," he revealed, adding that it will be discussed again by the board executive of Muhammadiyah as it must be supported by all parties.
