The Tabalong Forest Management Unit (KPH) is now managing a nursery to prepare seedlings that people can obtain them for free to support Green Revolution, the program of South Kalimantan Provincial Government.
Here, the KPH has sengon, petai (bitter beans), jengkol (dogfruit) on candlenut on a one hectare land in Kasiau Village, Murung Pudak sub-district.
"Local people submit application for free seed for the need of agroforestry or to rehabilate their land," said one of KPH's counselor, Sunari.
Since November 2019, the nursery has produced about 35 thousands of seedlings for the need of planting on critial land or for greening activities.
The most sought after seedling by the community, Sunari told, are sengon, jengkol, and petai. In addition for greening, the plants have also economic values. The unit has planned to produce about 25 thousands nurseries this month.
Head of the KPH Heryadi said the nursery was built with the cost of Rp102 million from the South Kalimantan Regional Budget (APBD).
It is according to the instruction of Head of South Kalimantan Forestry Agency Hanif Faisol Nurofiq that each KPH has a permanent nursery to meet the need of seedlings.
