President Joko Widodo has pledged to enable Indonesia to get out of the middle income trap by 2045 in his inaugural address after taking an oath of office as the President of Indonesia for the 2019-2024 term.

"Our dream, our goal is for Indonesia to get out of the middle income trap by 2045, which marks a century of Indonesia's independence," he said following the official inauguration of the country's president and vice president in Jakarta on Sunday.

He explained that, at that time, Indonesia would have earned its place as a developed country with the calculated income of 320 million rupiah per capita per year, or 27 million rupiah per capita per month.

"Our goal is that in 2045, Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product can reach US$ 7 trillion. Indonesia has been listed in the world's five largest economies with zero poverty rate. We have to reach our goal," Jokowi stated.

He further stated that the government has made its calculations and believed that the target is reasonable and is possibly achievable.

"However, it cannot be achieved easily. There need to be serious efforts and Indonesia needs to work fast and productively," he added.

Joko WIdodo and Ma'ruf Amin were officially inaugurated as President and Vice President of Indonesia for the period of 2019-2024 after being sworn in at the parliament building in Jakarta on Sunday.

After Vice President Amin read out his oath of office, they both signed the inauguration documents, which were also signed by the speaker and deputy speakers  the People's Consultative Assembly. The signing marked the official beginning of Jokowi and Ma'ruf's time in office.

Joko Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin won the 2019 Indonesian General Election after beating rival pair of Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uni.
