The Indonesian Pharmacists Association (IAI) branch of Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan, has saved hundreds of students in the district from drug abuse by giving them education and understanding about the dangers of consuming drug without doctor's  prescription.


Head of Pharmacy Department at the Darul Azhar College of Health Sciences (Stikes) Mahdi in Batulicin said on Tuesday that IAI in cooperation with the college gave understanding and education to the public and students regarding the right procedure of consuming the medicine. In this way they save them from the abuse of illegal drugs.

"We are very concerned about teenagers and community often abuse cough medicine to get drunk. Here IAI come to press the number of drug abuse among students and residents by providing periodic education," he pointed out.

In doing it, IAI formed young pharmacist cadres, who were equipped with knowledge so they smart in using drug from early age.

So far, 50 students actively followed the activities, and they  kept of being trained to be the real young pharmacist to later transmit their knowledge to their colleagues and the wider community.

IAI Tanah Bumbu, Mahdi continued, also commemorated the World Pharmacist Day by campaigning "Dagusibu" means "get it, use it, store it, and throw away unused medicine. 

"Many people took part very enthusiastic until they know more about pharmacist, especially in the district," he said.
