Kotabaru, 30/5 (Antaranews, S Kalimantan) - Kotabaru Port Administration Office bans passenger ships to transport fuel oil (BBM), as prone to fire.
"If found passenger ships carrying fuel, the clerk will provide decisive action," said the Head of Legal and Certification of Ships, Kotabaru Ports Administration Office Captain John Kosso, here on Thursday.
Actions to be taken, continued John, officer lowers fuel, then warning skipper and the crew to avoid repeating.
If it is repeated, then the Port Administration will provide strict sanctions, such as revocation of sailing ships. The ban, he said, to prevent things that are not desirable when the ship sailed.
"The rule is clear, that the passenger ship are only allowed to carry passengers no more than that," he said.
Chairman of the Kotabaru DPRD H. Alpidri Supian Noor, expressed according to the rules, the fuel can only be transported by special boat fuel, so the distribution of fuel to subdistrict could be safer and reduce the risk of accidents at sea.
He asked the water police, in order to crack down on the ship proved to transport fuel and passengers for safety.
Previously, passenger ship types Screen Motor Boats (PLM) Setia Budi serving Kotabaru-Geronggang in Kotabaru District, Wednesday (8/5) around 11:00 exploded, and burned, killing seven passengers. In addition to passengers, the ship was also carrying groceries, dozens of jerry cans of fuel, LPG, and five two-wheeled vehicles.
