Especially in the election year, I hope the broadcast media will not become partisan and be involved in broadcasting issues that make the Indonesian nation split,Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) Chairman Yuliandre Darwis asked the media and broadcasting institutions to conduct coverage and broadcasting in dignity and not to involve as a participant in the implementation of the 2019 General Elections.
Darwis was speaking after giving a speech at the commemoration of the 86th National Broadcasting Day (Harsiarnas) in Banjarmasin on Monday.
KPI hopes that through this warning, it will be a momentum for broadcasting institutions to improve their quality and dignity in informing various things to the public.
"Especially in the election year, I hope the broadcast media will not become a participant and be involved in broadcasting issues that make the Indonesian nation split," he said.
Darwis said, specifically the mainstream media and broadcasting institutions that were included in the KPI's supervision, were sufficiently directed and managed, because the provisions and signs were clear.
The challenge is the large amount of social media, which does not yet have a regulating mechanism.
"Be assured that the mainstream media will be able to maintain the implementation of peaceful elections, through responsible and dignified reporting," he said.
At present, he added, there is a spirit of change towards a better direction and broadcasting institutions are very important to shape the character of the nation, so the theme of the commemoration Kalimantan Indonesia Broadcasts Good, caring for diversity, will be able to arouse and strengthen a sense of unity.
Governor Sahbirin Noor said the commemoration of the 86th Harsianas in South Kalimantan was a history and pride for the Provincial Government, especially the people of South Kalimantan.
The Governor hopes in the future the quality of broadcasting in Indonesia will be healthier, better, independent and more advanced so what is conveyed by broadcast media is indeed beneficial for the people.
According to the Governor, ahead of the April 17 Election, the media can be a filter against hoax or hate speech. "Especially now we are in the year of politics and our society needs the right intake of information and is free from hoaxes," he said.
