Head of Tabalong Forest Management Unit (KPH) Heryadi said planting citronella was done by intercropping with sengon and rubber plants in the agrogorestry area.
"The development of citronella plants is in 1 hectare in the location of agroforestry," explained Heryadi, who said that agroforestry land prepared in Tabalong District reached 30 hectares.
Agroforestry is a land use system by combining trees with agricultural crops to increase profits, both economically and environmentally.
Meanwhile, the development of fragrant lemongrass in Kaong Village has been carried out since December 2018 and can now be harvested and refined.
The test results of refining 30 kilograms of wet leaves for four hours were obtained as much as 15 ml of citronella oil.
From the results of the yield of clear yellow citronella oil with its distinctive smell, said Heryadi, it is feasible to be developed.
Previously, members of the Penepeh Lestari Forest Farmers Group in Kaong learned to operate citronella oil refinery device assisted by the South Kalimantan Region IV Production Forest Management Center.
