Amuntai, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - North Hulu Sungai District until the end of 2018 has 88,981 tons of rice available as its stock.


The drought is quite long in 2018 giving special blessings to farmers in the northern region of South Kalimantan because the geographical area covered by swamps is very suitable for planting rice during the dry season.

The acting head of the Agriculture, Food Crops and Horticulture Agency Yuli Hertawan in Amuntai, Friday, said rice production in 2018 was 152,994 tons of dry milled rice (GKG) with a productivity of 53.55 quintals/ha.

The area of rice planting during 2018 was 28,585 ha and harvested area was 28,572 ha with the widest planting and harvesting area in Babirik Subdistrict 4,785 ha.

"Alhamdulillah, the planting area and harvest area are not too different. This means there are only a few failures or damages to rice plants during the past year," Yuli said.

For 2019 it was targeted that rice production would reach 132,493 tons with a productivity of 51.70 quintals/ha. While the target of planting area is 26.6.5 ha and harvest area is 25,627 ha.

The production of corn and soybeans in HSU District is not too high, namely corn 539 tons and zero production for soybeans. The next year soybean is targeted 35 tons of production to be concentrated in Banjang Subdistrict.

"The highest corn production is in Central Amuntai Subdistrict 58 tons, followed by North Amuntai 40 tons," Yuli explained.

Meanwhile, potential vegetable species cultivated in HSU are large chili reaching 2,608 quintals with a planting area of 35 ha spread in Babirik, Sungai Pandan, Central Amuntau and Banjang.

Big chili seeds from the Ministry of Agriculture in 2018 were also developed on 20 ha in Pinangkara Village, Central Amuntai, and Pulau Damar Village, Banjang.

"But in 2019 we target large chilli production of 1610 quintals in 27 hectares of land considering this year there may be no more assistance of large chilli seeds from the Ministry of Agriculture," said Yuli.
