Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The South Kalimantan Agriculture and Food Security Office (DPKP Kalsel) is developing cassava-based analog rice to reduce dependence on rice consumption and encourage healthy food diversification based on local potential.
Head of the office (DPKP) Syamsir here said on Wednesday that the innovation called as Analog Rice Revolution is directed by the Governor as a long term strategy to strengthen regional food security.
“The development of analog rice is centered in Karang Intan Village, Kuranji Sub-district, Tanah Bumbu District, through Maju Makmur Farmers Group,” he said.

DPKP provides comprehensive support through regional budget, from analog rice printing machine to a one-ton capacity drying facility to support production process.
In addition, a package of processing unit (UPH) to let the products to gain added value and not be limited as raw material.
The DPKP is also preparing product packaging material to ensure that analog rice to be marketed widely and remains competitive.

He said on the upstream side support is provided in the form of cassava cultivation package that covers seeds, fertilizer, herbicides, and organic fertilizer.
“This program is not only provides an alternative food source, but also to open up new economic opportunties for farmers through processing innovation. This is a strategic step toward reducing independence on single commodity while strengthening regional food security,” said Syamsir.
