Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Governor of South Kalimantan Sahbirin Noor hopes all parties involve in preparing a national level durian contest to elevate regional potential to national and international levels.
The governor was speaking at the biggest fruit competition and exhibition in South Kalimantan which was held at Kiram Tourism Location, Banjar District, Thursday.
"I want in the future there will be a national level durian festival, so that fruit wealth in South Kalimantan can be shown to audiences throughout the archipelago," he said.
South Kalimantan, which is rich in coal mineral resources, turns out to have other potentials in the form of fruits that are abundant and varied in variety and types.
The governor also saw the richness of fruit as a gift of nature and must be preserved to continue to be developed its potential to prosper society.
"It is amazing that we are very rich with local fruits. In fact, every district and city has its own unique fruit types that only exist in its area, including durian with a variety of flavors and characteristics," said Uncle Birin, Governor H Sahbirin Noor's nickname.
Head of the South Kalimantan Food and Horticulture Crops Agency Syamsir Rahman said the event was the culmination of the fruit festival previously held by each district.
Also present were officials of the TNI and Polri in South Kalimantan, and the Banjar Regent KH Khalilurrahman.
