Rantau, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The people of Pabaungan Pantai Village, South Candi Laras Subdistrict, Tapin, have billions of rupiah in turnover from their businesses in the fishery sector.
Head of Fisheries Aquaculture Division of Tapin Fisheries Agency Bambang Purwanto here on Friday (26/10) said that the village is the center for snakehead fish (gabus) supply in the district.
"The people do work mostly as fishers, and they also enlarge snakehead fish," he said.
Bambang explained, in the village, which borders with South Hulu Sungai District, people have 80 snakehead fish enlargement ponds.
The fish raised in these ponds is the catch of the people from nature, and the fish food, which is small fish, is also obtained from nature.
"If they get small fish, they will raise it first in the enlargement pond, so when the price of fish goes up, they sell it to the buyer," he said.
From the results of the enlargement in the pond, when harvesting around November and December, on an average pond can produce four tons of snakehead fish.
"Around November and December the price of snakehead fish can reach Rp60 thousand per kg, so the people there can gain around Rp1.2 billion from their harvest," he said.
Heman, one of the pool owners, said the fish enlargement business is very promising because everything was from nature. "So every morning we look for small fish for feed, and when we get snakehead fish we immediately put in the pond for enlargement," he said.
