Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Head of the Region XI Kalimantan Higher Education Service Agency (LLDikti) Prof. Idiannor said universities have a big enough role to explore and develop local potential so it can be more useful to improve the welfare of the community.


He was speaking in a visit with the Director of the Kotabaru Polytechnic Ibnu Fauzi and his entourage to the village of Teluk Tamiang (Tamiang Bay).

This village is about 145 kilometers from the center of Kotabaru. This fishing village is in the sea waters of South Kalimantan overlooking the Java Sea. Tamiang Bay which has a large potential for marine tourism, but still rarely touched by tourists.

The majority of the population are Bugis with a small number of indigenous tribes and some Mandar tribes. In some areas, seaweed cultivation is seen.

This nutritious plant has successfully catapulted the name of Tamiang Bay as the biggest seaweed producer in South Kalimantan. Not far from the main road of the village is the Coral Reef Conservation Office.

Prof. Idiannor conveyed the importance of cooperation between the local government and universities. For example in supporting the development of the potential of the tourism sector.

"What is done by Kotabaru Polytechnic is very good and right has collaborated with the local government, especially the Tamiyang Bay village government in the development of tourism," he said.

The role of universities is helping the government conduct research on how to increase tourist visits, provide input for the grand design of the beach, disseminate information through information media, develop Android-based IT for tourist purposes in Kotabaru, as well as innovate by tourists.
