Amuntai, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - A number of areas in North Hulu Sungai District, South Kalimantan, are suspected of being prone to landslides. A long dry season is thought to cause the soil to become cracked and easily collapse.


The suspension bridge that connects Teluk Haur Village and Keramat Village collapsed on Wednesday night around 24.00, because the foundation of the land on the riverbank was collapsed.

This condition invited the concerns of the local legislative council (DPRD) members from Commission II who reviewed the landslide location with officials of the related agencies (SKPD).

"It needs serious attention to deal with the threat of landslides because it can threaten the safety of citizens," said Commission II member Junaedi in Amuntai, Tuesday.

Junaedi said a few days earlier he and officials from the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Agency and the Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reviewed a number of landslide-prone points in North Amuntai Sub-District, Haur Gading, Central Amuntai, and Pandan River, including in Teluk Haur Village.

Based on the results of the previous review, there were many houses, places of worship, and other buildings on the banks of the river prone to landslides.

The review is intended in order the relevant agencies can determine steps to handling and preventing landslide disasters so they can reduce losses and casualties.

Head of Road Development Section of PUPR Agency Sahabuddin Noor explained the agency will replace the bridge that collapsed with a steel frame with funds from the center.

"If we use the local budget (APBD), we cannot afford it, so we need a budget for assistance from the center," he said.

In the meantime, he said, road repairs would be needed by anchoring the galam and filling up the land in order it is able to be used by road users.
