Karawang, W Java (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman emphasized the Indonesian government's commitment to building a modern, efficient, and competitive agricultural sector as a strong foundation for food self-sufficiency and farmer well-being.
"We are pushing for our agriculture sector to be driven by innovation and technology," he said during a grand harvest and announcement of rice self-sufficiency by President Prabowo Subianto.
The event, held in Karawang, West Java, on Wednesday, was attended by 5,000 farmers and extension officers, with an additional two million joining online.
He noted that through technology, productivity will increase, cropping intensity will rise, and production costs will fall, adding that farmer prosperity is also expected to improve.

Minister Sulaiman emphasized that agricultural modernization—driven by technology, mechanization, and farmer empowerment—is the key to maintaining sustainable national food security amidst global challenges and climate change.
He also affirmed that the Indonesian government continues to strengthen mechanization, provide production facilities, and provide assistance to farmers to boost both productivity and farmer welfare.
At the event, President Prabowo went directly into the fields to lead the grand rice harvest, during which he emphasized that the future of national agricultural development relies on modernization, mechanization, and the strategic use of technology.
He encouraged the continuous development of superior rice varieties to push productivity levels to 15 tons per hectare.

In addition, he observed demonstrations of modern agricultural equipment and machinery, including drones and water pumps, used to boost production.
He further said that Minister Sulaiman has promised him that Indonesia will soon achieve corn self-sufficiency, following the achievement of rice self-sufficiency in 2025.
"We will also be self-sufficient in corn soon. Feed will be cheaper for all farmers," Prabowo remarked.
