We are a little protest, why until now the development of tourism is still based on the river, that our region has not entered in the leading destinations,
Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Kotabaru Culture and Tourism Agency protests because not a single one of its 126 tourist objects became a strategic tourist destination, both in the provincial level of South Kalimantan let alone national.

"We are a little protest, why until now the development of tourism is still based on the river, that our region has not entered in the leading destinations," said Head of Kotabaru Culture and Tourism Agency Khairian Ansari, Wednesday.

The protest was delivered during technical tourism coordination meeting here following the determination of five leading tourist destinations by the South Kalimantan Culture and Tourism Agency. All five include attractions in Banjarmasin, Banjarbaru, and Banjar, all of which are river-based.

"Whereas marine-based districts such as Tanah Laut, Tanah Bumbu, and our region, no less potential," Khairian assured.

For example, coral reefs in Kotabaru are touted as one of the most beautiful in Indonesia. The district has conducted an assessment that the provincial government to fight for the tourism of small islands in Kotabaru included in the revision of national strategic tourist destination.

"Together with the province, we will develop marine tourism, especially the potential of coral reefs around small islands in our area," he added.

In order to enter the list of national strategic tourist destinations to be revised, Kotabaru was asked to make a proposal and the provincial government will give recommendations.

The main obstacle to the development of tourism in the region is the limited budget. But various efforts are being and continue to be done, among them revitalizing the tourist destinations that are focused on the five leading tourist attraction.

"This year Rp12 billion has budgeted for the development of Siring Laut and Gedambaan Beach," he explained.

The agency is also developing tourism promotion media through cyberspace by creating website www.pariwisatakotabaru.go.id.

This step imitates the success of Banyuwangi, East Java, in promoting tourism through social media and active community role.

"Banyuwangi that was nothing, today has become one of the tourist icons. In addition to the strong commitment of local government, there is the role of society by joining the tour through social media," he stressed.
