Rantau, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Tapin Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) in South Kalimantan reported three sub-districts, including Piani, Lokpaikat, and Tapin Selatan, were hit by floods after heavy rainfall.
BPBD Disaster Management Operation Control Center (Pusdalops) Operator Rahmani said the floods occurred due to prolonged rainfall and drainage channel unable to accomodate water flow.
“The large volume of water cannot be absorbed by ground or accomodated by drainage channels, so it overflow to the surface and causes floods,” he said in Rantau, Tapin capital, Monday.
Floods with water level varying from 50 to 70 centimeters in Piani Sub-district inundated two villages, Beramban with nine affected families and Miawa with 117 families affected.
Meanwhile, in Lokpaikat Sub-district the flood submerged Binderang Village, especially neighborhood unit of RT05 RW03 with a total 20 houses affected, while in Tapin Selatan the flood hit Tambarangan Urban Village RT03 and RT04 with a total 18 families affected.
As of Monday afternood, flooding in most areas had begun to recede and residents' activities slowly returned to normal.
"It is possible that water discharge in Tambarangan, Tapin Selatan, still has the potential to increase, for this reason we urge people to remain alert," he said.
According to Rahmani, BPBD team together with task force, TRC, and other personnel had gone down to the locations to conduct checks, collected data, and helped with evacuation.
"From the result of monitoring and data collection there were no fatalities, injuries or refugee, and public facilities were reported to be safe," he said.
