Assistant Economy and Development of the City Government Hamdi here on Thursday said Banjarmasin is one of five regions in Indonesia assessed as the best in applying the law (which was followed-up by local regulations) on building safety standards as well as friendly for the disabled.

The five best in building security standards as well as friendly for the disabled were Banjarmasin, Banjarbaru, Bandung, Gresik and Papua.

According to Hamdi, Banjarmasin considered capable of implementing the provisions of safety standards, especially for new buildings as required by law.

"The safe building is friendly for the disabled, which means it is easily accessible for people with special needs, and safe for the community, meets health standards, then easy to get out of buildings when a disaster occurs," he said.

Specially for new building, he added, since the last two years the government has implemented the standards and conditions, particularly for public buildings and government building.

Mayor residence will also be built easily accessible to the disabled, so people with special needs are easily met mayors and other local leaders.

"So for the new building, the owner can not be directly occupy it, before the research conducted by the parties involved, both in terms of safety and comfort, if not appropriate must be completed," he said.
