Tanjung, South Kalimantan 15/12 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Nine sub-districts in Tabalong, South Kalimantan, to develop hybrid rice plants in order to increase rice production.
Head of Tabalong Food Crops and Horticulture Agency Johan Noor Effendi in Tanjung on Thursday explained that in 2016 the agency received seed aid from the central government to support the cultivation of hybrid rice.
"The seeds have been given to farmers' groups in nine sub-districts to support local hybrid rice productivity improvement," said Johan.
Besides the local farmers' groups also began to implement the Legowo jajar rice cropping system as an effort to increase plant population.
The seed need for the development of hybrid rice in nine sub-districts reached 162,500 kilograms with a total land area of ??6,500 hectares.
The nine sub-districts which develop hybrid rice are Pugaan, Banua Lawas, Kelua, Muara Uya, Tanjung, Tanta, Jaro, Upau and Haruai.
While the seeds given in the form of super varieties, such as Ciherang, Inpari 3, Mekongga, Inpara 3, Cibogo, Inpari 8, Inpari 9, Inpari 2, Inpari 30 and Inpari.
Implementation of Legowo jajar planting is carried out in all sub-districts belonging to 67 groups.
