Kandangan, South Kalimantan, 12/12 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Head of South Hulu Sungai (HSS) Agriculture and Horticulture Agency H Fathurrahman said it managed to control the rat through a system of controlling pests before planting.


Fathurrahman said pest control before planting can reduce rat attacks on the harvest season as has happened since the last few years.

"In the previous year, rat attacks in agricultural land reached an area of 21.85 hectares per year, in 2016 it fell to 6.15 hectares. It is expected these attacks will continue to decrease every year," he said in Kandangan, Monday.

Besides rat, fly pest attack also fell from 0.5 hectares to 0.4 hectares and blast from 18.8 hectares to 1.1 hectares.

"Reduced pest attacks this year make the yield by agricultural community has also increased significantly," he said.

The reduced of plant pests organism (OPT) in HSS this year, he added, can not be separated from the agriculture counseling team (PPL) in the field to farmers on how to anticipate the pests that attack plants.

The action taken is looking for rats before planting rice, while a contest to catch rats in farmland also held.

Other efforts by maximize the vacant land to increase production of rice and other plant, because of the many vacant land become one of the place of growing rat.

"I ask farmer to work on vacant land that still exist around the farm, so it can increase production while reducing the rat," he said.

Previously Regent Achmad Fikry said, increasing rice production and minimize pest need village regulations that vacant land can be utilized and managed or handed over to the village.
