Barabai, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Central Hulu Sungai land and forest fire (karhutla) management team mapped the areas vulnerable to fire to do more surveillance in the area.


The Deputy Chief of Central Hulu Sungai (HST) Police Commissioner Dodik Tatok Subiantoro in Barabai on Monday said a fire-prone area map will make it easier for the team to anticipate the possibility of fires disaster as in previous years.

"Sub-district of North Batang Alai (Batara) is highly at risk of forest and land fire (Karhutla), because it is directly adjacent to oil palm plantations in North Hulu Sungai," he said.

In addition, he said, the South Batang Alai (BAS) and Limpasu sub-districts are also assessed prone to fires, because both are in a mountainous area and grassland directly borders with Balangan.

One effort to anticipate the fires, Karhutla prevention team together with the community have an initiative to set up fire monitor post in the Haur Gading village, subdistrict of Batara.

"We also conduct joint patrols together with local consultative forum (Muspika) elements and community regularly to prevent Karhutla," he said.

Previously, all members of Karhutla team conducted ceremony of preparedness and prevention of forest fires (Karhutla) rayon 2, which consisted of Batara, BAS and Limpasu in soccer field Budi Sukur in Ilung village, Batara.

The ceremony led by Deputy Chief of HST Police Commissioner Dodik Tatok Subiantoro attended by all relevant parties, such as the police chief, Sub-district military commander (Koramil), the Board of Fire Fighters, local governments, Muspika elements, village heads and community care fire.
