Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - Chief of National Police (Polri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander Admiral Yudo Margono invited all people to realize peaceful implementation of the 2024 General Election.
During his working visit to Malang City, East Java, on Saturday, Prabowo remarked that the declaration to make next year's election peaceful by several community groups is a form of agreement in jointly securing the situation ahead of and during the election period.
"I hope the peace declaration can set an example and is echoed in all regions. If this is implemented in all places, the election can run smoothly, safely, and peacefully," he remarked.
He explained that different opinions are part of democracy, but they must not threaten the unity of the Indonesian nation.
According to Prabowo, the declaration for holding a peaceful election that was carried out in Malang must also be exemplified by other regions in order to ensure that the 2024 General Election is safe and peaceful.
"This can be done both by voters and the election candidates, who have the same spirit to keep elections peaceful. Although there are different choices, they should have no impact on our unity and solidity," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, TNI Commander Margono urged all ranks of the TNI and Polri across the country to jointly implement the commitment to make the election peaceful.
He emphasized that the neutrality of TNI and Polri in the elections is the key to ensuring that the election stays peaceful.
"The TNI and Polri must be neutral in the 2024 election. This is our key to make the election implementation smooth and proper," he remarked.
The reading of the declaration to make the election peaceful was held at Rampal Field, Malang City, on Saturday, and was attended by various organizations.
