Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalimantan) - Governor of South Kalimantan Sahbirin Noor asked the Education Agency to make free of charge services for people with autism who come to Autism Center belonging to the Provincial Government.


Sahbirin, after inaugurating all-South Kalimantan Bunda PAUD (early childhood Education) at Autism Center at Jalan Perdagangan, Banjarmasin, on Saturday, said all children in South Kalimantan deserve attention and equal opportunities in education.

"Including children with autism should be given the widest opportunity to be able to grow and gain attention and education together with other children," he said.

He called on all stakeholders, including Education Agency, teachers, parents, need to pay more attention to children with special needs.

Governor also hope the inauguration of Bunda PAUD will be able to give love and attention to children, till in remote areas.

Head of Education Agency Ngadimun said based on the data, the number of people with autism continues to increase, while services to these children is not yet accommodated to the fullest.

It is estimated that in South Kalimantan is now every 100 births there is one potentially autistic child. So that the number of people with autism in the province is about 4 thousand.

"Until now, not all children with autism, especially those in remote areas, served well, due to limited facilities of autism service center which is only able to accommodate about 100 children," he said.

According to Ngadimun, autism is not a disease, but a kind of syndromes characterized by children who are occupied  with his own world or indifferent to the environment and others. They still have great potential for growth, if continued to be guided and cared for.
