Barabai, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The District Government of Central Hulu Sungai (HST) in cooperation with the South Kalimantan Language Center (Balai Bahasa) held a writing and translating stories in Banjarese.
Acting HST Regional Secretary Muhammad Yani said the activity was held from 28 to 30 March 2022 that involved 30 participants from the writing community and teachers in the district.
He said writing stories in local language with the target audience of children requires high imajination and creativity. The stories must use simple sentences, easy to understand, unambiguous, and provide a moral message that easy for children to grasp.
"Writing stories in local language has a bigger challange, because vocabulary in local language is not as wide as in Indonesian, thus the choice of words in story telling needs high attention," he said.

The Head of Balai Bahasa, represented by acting Head of Sub-division of Administration Mangara Siagian said that the activity aims to provide quality local language story reading products, and a variety of children's readings to support local content program in schools, as well as to preserve Banjar culture and language, especially in HST.
The resource persons at the event were the book, comics, and children stories illustrator Gusti Muhammad Setya Aryandi Iman, HST artist Muhammad Fuad Rahman, and Deputy Chairman of HST Art Council Masruswian.
Stories from 30 participants will be made into books in two languages, Banjarese and Indonesian, and will be translated into English for distribution to all provinces in Indonesia.
