Barabai, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Regent of Central Hulu Sungai (HST) H Aulia Oktafiandi launched Meratus Coffee at the Pagat tourist attraction, Batu Benawa Sub-district, Friday (Oct 1, 2021).
The lauching, which concided with International Coffee Day, was to introduce the local coffee produced by farmers in the Meratus Mountains areas.
The activity, which was also to promote tourism, colored by wayang cultural performance and mask dance, was supported by the Indonesian Farmers Union and Pena Hijau Indonesia. It also coincided with Mitra Desa (Village Partners) and the Faculty of Agriculture Teaching held by the University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM).
"Seeing the huge potential of coffee plantation and to realize community-based environmentally friendly economic growth and development, the district government launched
Meratus Coffee as a local coffee commodity that deserves to be a superior product," the Regent remarked.
Of course, according to the Regent, this is an encouraging step for the community to open up new business opportunities in the plantation sector.
"On behalf of HST government, I really have high hopes for the coffee plantation business. Hopefully one day our district will be more popular with coffee commodities that have a tourism attraction," he said.
