Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The youth environment lovers organization, Perkumpulan Hijau Daun (PHD) or the Green Leaf Association, which is under the auspices of the Forum Komunitas Hijau (FKH) Banjarmasin, took part in greening the Pitap Dam in Nungka Village, Awayan Sub-district, Balangan Regency, South Kalimantan.
Zany Thaluk, a PHD member, here on Sunday said that the Hijau Daun collaborated with tens of members of FKH Citra Sanggam Balangan, and accompanied by the dam skilled worker Haikal together planted trees.
Haikal said the dam was built in 2004, and in 2008 the physical construction was completed. Although the dam has been closed, it has not yet channeled water to rice fields because the channel building has not been completed.
Later, the dam will irrigate about 4,000 hectares of rice-fields to reach the Batu Mandi or South Paringin.
The dam will inundate about 80 hectares of Pitak River area, but there is no hydropower plant, because the dam only functions as irrigation and water control.
