Paringin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Seven villages in Tebing Tinggi Sub-district, Balangan Regency, South Kalimantan, were inundated by water after river overflowing its banks, Saturday (Oct 31, 2020).
River water had swamped roads, houses, schools, as well as worship places, since 6.45 a.m. local time, with varying depth.
The Balangan Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) through Head of Emergency Section Syuhada reported, hundreds of houses were inundated in seven villages.
"Due to the high rainfall in the mountainous area, river water overflowing and inundated roads, houses, schools, and places of worship up to one meter," he said.
The villages affected by flood were Mayanau 125 houses, 450 people, Gunung Batu 150 houses, 335 people, Sungsum, 210 houses, 752 people, Ju'uh, 50 houses, 321 people, Simpang Bumbuan, 35 houses, 125 people, Simpang Nadung 50 houses, 175 people, Tebing Tinggi 182 houses, 670 people.
Until 1 p.m. the overflow water has started to recede. "If there are no further downpours it is estimated that the water will immediately recede in the afternoon," said Syuhada.
"There are no fatalities in the disaster, meanwhile volunteers were on the location since the information was receieved, they including TRC PB-BPBD Balangan, BPK Tariwin, BPK Rescue 304 Rica Jaya, BPK Ulin, members of Koramil (Sub-district Military Command) Awayan and Awayan Police," he said.
