Housing in Banjarbaru Increasing Significantly

Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Housing development in Banjarbaru has increased significantly, thus becoming an overview of the city as an ideal settlements in the province of South Kalimantan.

"Housing development is quite significant, because 57,557 habitable houses had built until 2013, or 89 percent of all homes in Banjarbaru," said Mayor Ruzaidin Noor in Banjarbaru on Friday.

He admits, despite the significant increase in development, there is still a slum area of 561.32 hectares and spread of flood prone areas at some point. Various activities are carried out to prevent untidiness, beside environmental control and management of the river.

"City Government has been carrying out surgical slum homes, an increase in infrastructure to support environmental sanitation programs such as flood control, river and waste management," he said.

City Government is also working to improve waste management through the development of integrated waste treatment facility and an increase in the procurement of waste management facilities and infrastructure. Each village had been asked to have garbage banks. City Government implement green and clean programs and thousand plants movements.

Banjarbaru achieve the highest human development index 75.43 in South Kalimantan and number two in life expectancy 67.76.
