Amuntai, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - The North Hulu Sungai Administration will provide free childbirth service in Puskesmas (community health centers) and Polindes (village polyclinic).

"Starting in 2014, pregnant women, both from the wellbeing and poor family, all get the same rights to free childbirth," said HSU Regent H Abdul Wahid through press release on Wednesday.

Free delivery will be by way of provision of midwives intensive attending childbirth to pregnant women in
Puskesmas and Polindes Rp500.000 for each delivery. Unless there are medical procedures that require another cost such as operations.

Free delivery policy was taken for further depress Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), which until the end of 2013 was down by 50 percent over the previous year.

"If later there is still an increase in infant and maternal mortality means that more efforts are still demanded from our maximum to reduce the death rate," he said.

But Wahid hope the mother and infant mortality should not be a factor derived from the medical practitioner or midwife .

"Do not let happen maternal and neonatal deaths due to medical or midwife errors, either due to negligence, not
in place or being lazy to serve patients," he said.

HSU local government paid great attention to the mother and infant mortality problems and make it as one of the priorities as it relates to improving the quality of  human resources ( HR ) of future generations.
