Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - The Kotabaru District government  plans to build a special container port to support the strategic economic zone here. The site chosen is Port Selaru.

"The container port will be equipped with infrastructure," said Regent Kotabaru H Irhami Ridjani here on Thursday. 

According to the Regent, Selaru is a strategic location for container port. Up till now, the shipments of goods to and exit from Kotabaru still using container port in Batulicin, Tanah Bumbu District.

Although Kotabaru is close to Tanah Bumbu, but current delivery from Batulicin to Kotabaru or otherwise takes a 
long time, about seven days or a week.

In addition to saving time, the construction of container port in Kotabaru will benefit the price of goods sold on 
daily markets and traditional markets in Kotabaru can be cheaper.

Supporting the program, the local government will complete infrastructure facilities, such as roads leading to and at 
the port location with adequate facilities.

Kotabaru also determined to be the only area in Kalimantan, which has international ports, such as ports Indonesia Bulk Terminal ( IBT ) in Lontar, the West Pulaulaut.

Compared with Batulicin, port Kotabaru has its own advantages , which are not shared by other regions. It has 
sufficient conditions in marine waters, allowing cargo vessels with a deadweight of 200 thousand mt can lean on. 
It  need not maintenance costs, particularly the cost of dredging.

Kotabaru is possible to be the transit of goods from and to abroad for export-import.

Now to support the plan, Kotabaru currently preparing an adequate infrastructure by improving and developing 125 km roads between Kotabaru and Lontar.
