BBI Overwhelmed By Farmers Need

Amuntai, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Fish Seed Center (BBI) at Banjang subdistricts, North Hulu Sungai(HSU), not able to serve the farmers needs of Patin seed for their ponds in the subdistrict of Haur Gading, then they have to order to Bogor.

Head of Monitoring and Empowerment of HSU Fisheries and Livestock Agency (Diskannak) Rossy Estiawati here on Saturday said subdistrict Haur Gading set as the city area of fish (minapolitan).

The determination related of aquaculture here growing rapidly . Now the people of that region have fish with a turnover of billions of rupiah per year with the needs of Patin fingerlings reach hundreds of thousands.

"Patin fingerlings produced by BBI Banjang together with tilapia and catfish fingerlings are about 240 thousand seedlings, it just enough to serve the needs of farmers ponds and cages in some subdistricts," said Rossy.

Initially, says Rossy, fish pond farmers in Haur Gading also bought Patin seeds from BBI Banjang, however the business is growing rapidly, that it need can not be met anymore.

To meet these needs, farmers buy Patin seeds from Bogor. In fact, continued Rossy, fingerlings produced by BBI Banjang have better quality than seeds from Bogor.

However, farmers in Haur Gading also started trying to conceive locally seed to meet the needs of their group .

Rossy did not deny the results of Patin farming in the fast-growing marsh pond in the village of Sari Palimbang ,

Haur Gading subdistricts, now comes the rich farmers who have incomes above the average farmer in other subdistricts.
