Hampang People Demand Compensation

Kotabaru, (Antaranews South Kalimantan)-Dayak Hampang, Kotabaru, went to the District Legislative Assembly (DPRD) demanding compensation for their indigenous land use by forestry company PT Kodeco Timber.

Action coordinator  Jupriansyah said here on Tuesday the company has never provided compensation to local communities, although  it has long dominated the land.

To firm their demands,  people tried to get support from DPRD and Kotabaru District Government. They complained that recently it difficult to make a living, because most land once tilled are controlled by the company. They asked the local government to quickly resolve the issue.

"We still respect and comply with applicable laws, please note the aspirations of the people," he pleaded.

Kotabaru Regent H. Irhami Ridjani explains, PT Kodeco Timber company already has permission from the central government since December 11, 1988 to 2043 to manage an area of 99,570 hectares. "We'll find a way out, to solve these problems, by complying with the applicable rules of law," said the regent.

Chairman of the Kotabaru DPRD H Alpidri Supian Noor said the legislature together with  local governments will consult the central government. Because,  PT Kodeco Timber already has permission from the central government for the management of the land.

Kotabaru police chief Assistant Commissioner (AKBP) Rosyanto Yudha, convey, this issue should be resolved as soon as possible. If left unchecked will lead to debate in public.
