This was revealed in the question and answer session at the national workshop on business-based river basin areas (DAS) rehabilitation in Banjarmasin on Tuesday.
South Kalimantan Forestry Agency Head Hanif Faisol Nurofiq asked forest management units (KPH) in South Kalimantan to look for potential land in the effort to develop the commodity.
According to him, coffee is now rising, demand is high, prices are also high, so the development of coffee plants will benefit the community. These are the reason provincial government of South Kalimantan will encourage the community to develop the plant.
Especially land and fertility potential are in accordance with these plants, so it is predicted in the future South Kalimantan will become a center for coffee production.
A speaker at the workshop acknowledged that the market demand for coffee is very high, both domestic and foreign demand.
The development of coffee does not lie in marketing, but depends on the seriousness of the South Kalimantan people to develop it with cultivation technology so that coffee can produce high quality.
In the workshop, attended by KPH officers, a number of Forest Agency offices, communities and managing forests communities, were offered in an effort to revitalize the watershed area and critical land which is estimated to be around 500 thousand hectares in this area.
In addition to coffee, also offered the development of jengkol with new varieties without smell, large shapes, and tastes more tender. Also a new type of candlenut to produce candlenut oil, biodiesel, and the development of meranti and sengon.
