Director General of the Small and Medium Industries of the Ministry of Industry Gati Wibawaningsih said up to now her institution has built 22 boarding schools with more than 3,000 santri given production training and entrepreneurial motivation.


"The scope of our coaching, including training in the production and assistance of machinery or equipment in the fields of food and beverage processing (bread and coffee), two-wheeled workshops, dolls and patchwork crafts, Muslim fashion and uniform convection, waste recycling and liquid organic fertilizer production," Gati said through her statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

She said, based on the Ministry of Religious Affairs census in 2014-2015, the number of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia was estimated at 28,961 spread across provinces with a total number of students of more than 4 million.

Of the total 28,961 Islamic boarding schools, around 23,331 (80 percent) are spread in four provinces, namely West Java, East Java, Central Java and Banten.

"Islamic boarding schools have great potential in providing competent human resources, namely students who are quality, resilient, patient, honest and diligent," she pointed out.

Gati added, the purpose of the Santripreneur activity was to foster new entrepreneurs among the santri, so that santri could create new businesses in the field of industry.
