Farmers in Kusan Hulu Subdistrict, Tanah Bumbu, has switched to plant organic rice and they have no more chemical starting from the nursery till harvest comes.

"The organic farming that the local farmers union here carry out is under the guidance of the coal company PT Borniindo Bara (BIB)," said PT BIB's agriculture consultant Iwang in Batulicin.

He said organic rice seeds are more resistant to pests compared to other rice seeds. The age range of seeds with planting shorter, around the age of seven days is ready for planting.

In addition, the quality of rice is high, so the selling value is relatively expensive compared to other rice. Especially because organic rice does not contain chemicals, from the planting process to harvesting crops it does not use any chemicals.

"Now many farmers are starting to switch to using organic rice planting systems, because of the economical maintenance. While the yields are promising, even in one hectare the yield of harvest can reach six tons," Iwang said.
