Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The Semarang Legislative Council (DPRD) members wonder how traditional markets here, especially floating markets, still exist in the midst of the modern market invasion.

"Traditional markets in Banjarmasin still very exist, whereas in our city this is not the case anymore," said Chairman of Commission B of Semarang City DPRD, Basari while visiting DPRD Banjarmasin on Tuesday.

According to Basari, the traditional markets in Semarang are now almost extinct. The reason, he said, is that so many modern and online retail stores have sprung up. Apart from being neater and cleaner, the stock of their availability is very complete.

"So we were attracted to Banjarmasin. The traditional market is very well maintained. We want to know what tips to use, so that this market is still sustainable until now, especially the floating market," he said.

The Head of the Finance Section of the DPRD Banjarmasin Norhidayah after receiving a visit from the Semarang DPRD said that the traditional market in Banjarmasin was still well maintained.

The City Government, he continued, carried out conservation in various ways. "For example the Floating Market. The City Government places this market strategically (in the city center), where people will visit a lot. Surely it will become an icon of this city," he said.

In addition, the government seeks to add to the attractiveness of the floating market through river cruising tourism.

While the traditional market, he said, will remain sustainable if the government and the community together maintain the cleanliness and existence of this market. "If the market is clean, the environment is good, people will feel comfortable shopping. Finally they can compete with the modern market," he explained.
